Star Trek

Went to see the Premiere in Nagoya last night, then walked home after. It took me an hour in lovely weather. It was my first time in Toyota's new Theatre in the new building across from the station - lovely leathery seats and the space was larger than I expected. Very comfy! It was practically empty though, because ST isn't big here for some unkown ( Read more... )

Some of the loudness may have been because the theater was so empty--but I find that most movies are too loud for me. I bring ear plugs and manage to take them out about mid way through the film after my ears have adjusted!

I loved the whole AR take on the franchise--how very clever--now they are not tied into telling canon stories for any future movies. :-) And I thought the nod to the sixties era was clever too--a neat way of explaining the atrocious costuming of TOS without having to stick to it in the future either.

I've seen it twice now and can't wait for it to come out on DVD. :-)

Yes, I loved how they seemed to get the balance right between it *looking like Star Trek* but taking it in new directions!

I will go and see it again too. I'm taking ear plugs next time - good advice! :D

Glad you enjoyed it! I actually think this sound thing is becoming a real problem in movies. I often find it uncomfortably loud - I think it depends which movie theatre you go to but I remember that I actually complained after Van Helsing because watching that movie was just torture on my ears (it also wasn't a very good movie!). I was fine with the sound in ST but that could be because the cinema I was at didn't blare it out. And I loved the original music and the Enterprise reveal - i got all tingly! LOL!

It was such a watchable movie and so fast paced - not a dull moment. Yes, it volume probably depends on the theatre and sga madison also said it might have something to do with the number of people, or lack thereof rather. I'm certain it must vary from theatre to theatre though.

I loved that opener! It was brilliantly conceived and meshed so well with the story later as well. I know, I know, all the little nods to TOS - I just lapped them up with a huge grin and clapped softly at moments or quietly squeed and probably disturbed the few people in the theatre *g*

I loved Bones and getting to know why he's CALLED Bones! At first I felt wierd thay he seemed so much more mature/older than Kirk, but he is older in TOS as well and they must have thought of that.

I agree loved the spin both Pine and Quinto put into their roles. I thought K and S were perfect, but still their own men and not just trying to emulate previous inhabitants of the roles.

Yes P, I rely on your widely lauded objectivity. *nods vehemently* What would I do without that *g*

Honestly, I can't wait for it to come out on DVD. I've already seen it twice at the cinema but I just want to see it again - I keep thinking about it all the time.
I know - we got to know about the Bones nickname! Yay!

Yes, I'm well known for my level-headedness & logical objectivity. It's scary - I could almost be Vulcan. ;-)

It was fantastic, wasn't it? I can't remember last time I had so much fun watching a movie. I was grinning like a loon through it all, and long after =)

Oops! Sorry, I thought i'd replied to you, but then realised I hadn't.

Yes, it WAS fantastic! I grinned like a loon too! Being in Japan and with so few foreigners who would have even the slightest knowledge of ST, I felt very superior anytime a reference to TOS was made.
