So, my husband started watching Supernatural on Netflix, and managed to get through the entire first seven seasons in 36 days. And now he's anxious for me to watch the show so we can discuss it. So last night I decided to start. I...probably should have waited for a night when he was not at work.
- This show is CREEPY AS HELL. Much creepier than I had anticipated from all the amusing and occasionally goofy gifs on my dash. I’m somewhat easily spooked, but I really didn’t expect the show to be all that scary.
- Sam looks about 16 years old. I’m used to seeing gifs and images of an older Jared, but in the first episode he seriously looks about 16 or 17 years old.
- Did I mention the show was creepy?
- Loved the treatment of the whole “woman in white” legend. I’ve heard that one since I was a little kid, although in a slightly different form, and it was really awesome to see that brought to life.
- Dean, who remembers his mother, is a whole lot more invested in the hunt for her killer than Sam, who doesn’t remember her at all, and that’s actually pretty reasonable to me. I also got the impression that, despite Dean’s flirtatious comments to Sam’s girlfriend, he wasn’t really even remotely interested in her, and the comments were made more because it seemed like something he should say rather than anything he actually thought/felt. Like, “Oh, I’m Sam’s big brother, I should totally tease him a little bit by flirting with his girlfriend” when really all he wanted was to take Sam and GTFO and on the road.
- Sam, for all his insistence that he’s out of the lifestyle and has absolutely zero interest in getting back in, picked it back up very quickly. I don’t think it’s coincidence that he was the one who locked on to the idea of the woman’s death being suicide instead of murder. I think for all his efforts to be “normal” and leave behind everything he learned from his father, he’s still a hunter at heart, even when he’s trying very hard not to be.
- But seriously, So. Damned. CREEPY. I ended up regretting the fact that I watched it right before bed, on a night when my husband was at work. I think future episodes will have to wait for either a night when he's home, or for Saturdays while the sun is still up.
