Book Seven thoughts

As I am new to the HP fandom and missed the little spoiler leaks and all the hype as each new book was released.  In fact this time last year I had never even read a single Harry Potter book and at this point had no desire to.  I remember being somewhat tired of all the hoopla surrounding the release of the HBP.  Were it not for the number of ( Read more... )

I was the same way before I got into it the October before OotP was released. I was quite sure that something with that much hoopla could not be worth it. I was house sitting and they had the books so I figured Why not? I gladly admit I was wrong and the HP fandom has opened up a lot of new worlds for me. Both literally and figuratively. Ok, a little more than you probably wanted to know about. lol

The year(s) of anxiety are well worth it ;-)

What did people tell you when you read PS/SS?

I generally carry a book around w/ me - in case I am at lunch alone, stuck in a long line somewhere or just want to read a bit on my coffee break. When people would see me reading SS/PS I would always get the old "So how do you like it? The books get SOOOOO much better, darker but better."

I would think How do they get better, this book is so cute. Darker??? This is a children's series..., but then as I got to CoS and PoA it started to make sense. Then when I hit GoF I got what everyone meant.

This is w/o a doubt the best series I have ever read for just totally immersing yourself in another world and going along for the ride.

::whispers:: I really hope the people who die in the last book are those who are the *bad* people. I would love to see Umbridge kick it at the hands of Malfoy and go to her grave knowing she was backing the wrong horse.

LOL the same thing actually. I took the books everywhere and read every second I could until I was finsihed will all four. the when 5 came out I got it did the same thing with it. 6 I finished in one night...

It is interesting to seem then advance and she does a good job staying in the age range (i.e. Harry acts like a 15 year old boy would). The movies are doing a fair job of this (even if I do shout "It didn't happen that way!") and I think 5 will film the best...and so can not wait until 6 to see the kiss :-)

I hope Umbridge gets what's coming to her. She is pure evil, and has no place near children!

I'm in a similar situation - I'd been avoiding the books because of the hype and only just read them last September. After finishing HBP I found myself wishing I'd waited until book seven's release before starting the series, since the idea of having to wait up to two years to find out what happens next was sheer torture.

On the other hand, if I had waited I probably wouldn't have gotten involved in online fandom and would have remained completely ignorant of things like 'shipping and all the rest of the madness. Of course, this may or may not have been a bad thing. ;)

Some days I wish I had waited as well so I could just jump in and read it all from start to finish w/o having to wait.

But the wait from HBP to book seven has a few notable milestones along the way to make the wait a bit easier. The distraction of the GoF and OotP movies are a great distraction :)

i was a late-comer to the hp world myself. i had people bugging me and trying to coerce me into reading them for years before i finally broke down and read them, and that was after i watched POA in the theater and didn't know what the crap was going on, lol. i was with my friend jackie, who was a big fan of the books, and she kept saying "what? that's not what happened in the book!" and i was intrigued...

...and it was a downhill battle from there. the wait for HBP was awful. i should have waited until the seventh book to read them all, so i could read them all in one fell swoop and not have to wait, but *shrugs*

Yeah, I know what you mean as the wait for book seven is awful. But....at the same time I do enjoy the anticipation of the book and having joy of getting the new book after a nice long wait to look forward to.

I don't think I could have handled it had I become a fan earlier. I am so thankful I didn't have to wait it out from GoF or something. Now THAT may have driven me around the bend!
