You never really realize just how many beads are on a necklace until you are trying to pick them all up off the floor.

This was once my mother's necklace, and I'm sure she only paid a few dollars for it sometime inthe '80s or '90s - it wasn't heirloom quality  or particularly special - but I'm kicking myself anyway for snapping the thread.  I don' ( Read more... )

The first sentence of this entry is quite deep. Did you mean to do that? You write very well :)

sorry about the necklace. is it fixable? i broke a silver bead bracelet that belonged to my mom, and i was so sad. i got it repaired (the repair cost as much as the bracelet), but i'm afraid to wear it because i don't want to scramble to pick up beads in a public place.

i know what you mean about not having any more of your mom's stuff. my mom got rid of all but a few of her things before she died. she was worried that my dad would keep all of it, so she got rid of her clothes, jewelry, etc, until there were just necessities left.

No, it wasn't really fixable, but that's okay, I did keep the beads. Being klutzy and nostalgic don't mix very well!

Put all the beads in a really cool bowl and put it on your dresser.

That first line is the honest truth. I am sorry that your mother's necklace broke, but you should really stop blaming yourself. You didn't do it on purpose, you know. Have some strawberry pie and cut yourself some slack. Put at least one thing in a safey deposit box to ensure you always have something. Don't forget to include a picture and something in her handwriting ( ... )

I am exactly the same way about saving special things for the mementos I wan to make with them later...surely when I've retired I will have time to work on them! Meanwhile, every closet in the house is stuffed.
