Blue eyes stare unfocused into the bowl set down before her. She can feel her mouth move, sounds pushing forth, but she doesn't really hear them. She doesn't feel much anymore other than a wearisome dread that never leaves, and the creeping numb hollowness toward her chest. It's a feeling she's coming to welcome more and more as of late.
They don't talk much, she and Tom. Not since glimpsing him in New York close to a month ago for the first time since Muir. Civil war erupted across the country months before and the X-Men have suffered defeat after defeat until there was no longer much of a a stand to make. The mansion was razed to the ground and she knows there shall be no rebuilding this time. Now much of her time was spent attempting to track the scatter remnants of the X-teams across the northeast, trying to remain as informed as possible. Africa has rejected her, and so she waits, letting her mind wander within its own confines.

She's the last one left, and that's because she wasn't able to fight. It's a burning pain she'll carry with her the rest of her life. The wars have calmed down, in the States, at least, as if that's the whole world to them now. Africa won't let her in, and she doesn't want to face the humiliation of travelling the airways with handicap accomodations anyway
