The Problem With Education

I agree with everything this man says. I was bitter towards the educational system of my youth, and had good reasons to be. Still, I was usually in the top 10-5% (excepting the time when I stopped showing up) so I can only imagine what it was like for any of those darling colleages of mine whose natural gifts did not include the very unfair ( Read more... )

Totally agree with what everyone is saying about how (if at all) P.E. should be graded.

And yes the education system is in need of muchos fixing... which is why I've basically made it my mission in life to do so. I hope my college endevours will lead me to my eventual goal of researching better methodologies... but then you never know where learning will take ya, because by definition you don't know what's ahead of you yet.

Anyway, I really want to do something to fix this. At any rate I don't just want my work to bring me money, I want my work to be contributing to a better world.

P.S. Just a pity how ultraconservative educational policy is in pretty much every country. Serving nationalism is the highest goal, the children's actual wellbeing and education is somewhere down the list. But this needs to be fough (and hell, nationalism in general... which is why I say let's rid ourselves of it)

I'm very interested in the alternatives offered by the Waldorf educational system. It sounds like they've got a few things right, but I don't know it very well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waldorf_education
