jonsingerUmm, I dunno. Afterall, weird is where you find it. I have some social circles that think the fact that I don't own a television and that I read all the time is weird. Other circles think that is perfectly reasonable

1. I eat oatmeal in the mornings too. Steel cut prefered. Salt and butter.
2. I don't dislike sweet things, but I usually don't crave them either. Extra sweet fruit usually is extra ripe and therefore usually has extra mold - to which I'm allergic.
3. My family got a TV when I was in my late 30's and my father was sinking into alzhimers. I got a TV for about four years when I was living with my sweetie John. Other than that I'm exactly like you. Just explain the reference.
4. Nope, never had a rice cooker, though I've cooked my share of rice...
5. Wear sandals during the summer to keep grass seeds out of my socks. And I love my boots!

2. Extra ripe fruit can have a moldy taste. Having suffered ear infections as a child, in an era when penicillin was the only available antibiotic, I can no longer stand the taste of any penicillium mold. Moldy bread makes me gag.
3. The only problem, for me, about growing up without a TV is that I got the book habit. Mostly not a real problem until I move. *glances at the walls lined with pounds and pounds of books*
4. I can cook rice perfectly well on the stove top - almost any kind of rice. But the rice cooker has many virtues, not the least that it leaves a burner free for other food prep.
5. What kind of sandals do you wear? I have weirdly shaped feet, so Tevas and Birkenstocks work for me, but not much else. Alps, no longer available, also did well by me.

5. Usually just thongs, I find both Birkenstocks and Tevas the wrong shape for my feet... :)

2. Very different; I love sweets, but resist as often as I can.
3. I've watched huge amounts of TV in my life, usually while doing something else as well (including homework when I was in grade school, high school, and college).
4. You beat me by a couple of years, I think.
5. I go barefoot (or slipper foot in the cold Minn. winter) as much as socially possible.

5. Sometimes I go sock-foot, too, instead of slipper-foot.

If you have the room and the inclination, I'd recommend acquiring one. Not only does it cook rice, but you can put rice, seasonings, vegetation, and a protein source in it, add water, put the lid on, and in a short period of time have an entire meal.
5. Maryland doesn't have anything on Minnesota in terms of cold. OTOH, I keep the house pretty chilly. I can put on a sweater and the reigning feline has a very plush coat.

I really do like my rice cooker. I can put rice, some frozen vegetables, and a piece of protein in it, add fluid, and get a meal some 40 minutes later.
And as I recall, you mostly use the TV as bird entertainment, no?
