i think that the only thing you can really do about the bar situation is talk to the organizer of the event, try to get it to be an all ages event somehow. That's a hard dilemma, because they have all those stupid codes and laws to follow, but you aren't going to flippin drink. I suppose you could just walk up there and try to get in, and the worst that could happen is they say sorry, you need to be 21. I'm not much help, I apologize!
Volunteering takes up a lot of time and extra energy. When the moment is right, go for it. I couldn't have done it in college either. When I was in school though I did an hour a week tutoring/TA at a local elementary school. You might be able to help out with the music department at a school. Not only is it good fun, but looks good on a resume because it is relevant. Just a though! :-) But don't worry about it if you have no time.
