For years, Matthew's class has gone on field trips to farms. Exciting in preschool and kindergarten. Fourth grade? Not so much. Nothing against farms, but he's sick of farm field trips. Six years in a row. Even if fourth grade, the annual "cool" trip was replaced to a trip to a living history farm. This year? He goes to the Doris Duke Estate...which is pretty much a farm and only ten minutes away. It's rich in history and wildlife but, according to him, a farm.
BUT...."WIMPY" trips no more!
He ran off the bus minutes ago announcing that his class (all 600 of them!) was one of two schools picked by the NEA to go to an advanced screening of Diary of a Wimpy Kid at the Ziegfeld Theater in NY. FOR FREE. (Makes the $120 check I wrote for Sarah's overnight camping trip a little more tolerable. Okay..not really. $120??? I digress...)
But that's not all...
Guess who's going to be there for a Q&A session??
JEFF KINNEY! How cool is that? (And the cast of the movie which many of you know has extra special meaning these days to Matthew.)
But....there's more! Much more!
Guess who kicks off this special day?
Here's a hint:
If you guessed Katherine Paterson, you may pass go and collect $200.
He swears they are walking the red carpet and is thrilled that all kids have to sign a photo release form for Twentieth Century Fox. Seriously, he's convinced he's going to be in a magazine! Ha!
There's only one thing NOT COOL about this trip: they didn't ask for chaperones!
