Dealing with reality

Warning, this is not a happy post.

I'm not meaning to be a downer but, it's effing hard to find a job right now! Been looking for so long (3 months now), interviewing here and there....never hear back. When I call back to follow up, it's always the same answer, "Sorry but we're not gonna continue with the interviewing process." or "We've hired someone else with more experience/qualifications."

I try to be positive but it's VERY hard. To always be rejected time and time again....well, it reeks havoc on your soul.

I've redone my resume a dozen times, even had someone look over it and fix it. I tailor my resume to specific jobs and I use different formats, depending on the kind of job it is. I'm always very candid in interviews, trying to always reflect on my skillset, which I obtained in schooling and past work experience. Plus I ask very pertinent questions to the job.

But still.....nothing! I mean, I'm getting to the point that I may have to start applying at menial jobs cause noone else is hiring right now. The ones that are, it's litereally IMPOSSIBLE to compete with all the candidates.

I have even considered going to a local community college and getting what they call "worker retraining" so that you can get the skills you need to get out there in the workforce again. It's for people like me who are unemployed, receiving unemployment benefits. I think it's funded completely by the government, but I'm probably going to go talk to one of the colleges here soon and find out more information. I'm looking at getting education in jobs that I know are in demand right now and more recession-proof. I thought about Office Assistant or Medical Billing.

But what really upsets me the most is that I have absolutely no control over this situation. I can't make someone hire me, but yet I need the job so badly. And here I have two college degrees. I'm not above working at a lesser job if I have to but still....it's just sickening to be reduced to working at some restaurant or crappy customer service job. And for anyone out there right now wishing to leave their job to find something better, know this. It's VERY VERY VERY hard to find a job right now. And you should be happy you even still HAVE a job! But all the same, good luck to you, and I hope you are able to advance in your career soon if not right now.
