I know I posted only a few months about about finally getting another job, only to have that job end a short few weeks later. For that reason, I am a bit more careful about posting good news but...I still I have to post about this!
I dropped off my resume to numerous vet clinics and doggie daycares around town, hoping to get a job working with animals. I mean hell, I already volunteer at the Humane Society, may even do more stuff for them. I've pretty much given up on getting another printing/graphic arts type job. Just too damn hard to find in the lousy economy and I've also realized it's just too much competition, and I just don't think I have what it takes. What's funny is that one of the clinics I interviewed for, the gal interviewing me also had a arts-related background and she said someone else working there ALSO had a graphic arts degree. Guess we all decided later on it wasn't what we thought. But funny how we all had the same kind of degree, lol!
So anyway, one local clinic finally called me back, this morning (Sat. of all days) and wanted to have me interviewed by the main vet for a kennel technician/vet assistant position. I went in around noon and talked to the vet and told him of my goals; that despite my artsy-fartsy degree, in the bad economy, I'm falling back on my other love: working with animals. I told him about my involvement with the Humane Society and wishing to do more, plus the fact I've had pets all my life. He had told me that original girl had to quit rather suddenly because of personal medical reasons, so I guess you could say I was in the right place, the right time. Cuz I was actually hired on the spot! I still can hardly believe it!
It is unfortunately only part time but hey, at least it's a foot in the door! Never know, may progress to fulltime later, or I may eventually just get some other part time job if it doesn't. The good thing is despite my unemployment benefits situation, I do have some extra money which my parents helped me out with. So that in combination with the job, I should be ok.
Some duties are gonna be somewhat daunting, like the janitorial work I'll have to do on some days. But at least he was upfront about it. But he still said it'd be working with animals too, to a degree. Some days I'll be doing more vet assistant type of stuff and aiding somewhat during procedures and of course doing animal care like feeding, maybe light medicating, and some dog walking. I'm ok with that! And I realize having a pet and working with animals, is real work, even if it's not always pleasant. To me, a job working with animals in itself is rewarding.
Anyway I start on Mon. morning and it's my "learning" day where the other staff will be showing me around and telling me what stuff I'll more than likely forget, heh! I like that, makes me feel more at home, :p They do in general seem pretty easy going though, but I just won't take advantage of that too much. And hey if the job doesn't end up working out, then that's how it goes I guess. But I guarantee this time it won't be because of something stupid I did, like getting distracted with cell phones and internet! Hopefully I'll catch on ok and everything will work out ok then...*being positive here*
