I remember sitting in the teahaus this week, discussing the "classics" with someone who's a theater third (acting), and basically being totally... surprised with their lack of respect for the classics and how much he was like "I'm not planning on ever doing shakespeare, so I don't see why I need to study it critically." And I was just thinking - there's a reason that Shakespeare has managed to enrapture people so much that almost 400 years after it was written, it's still being read regularly. Something in it transcends time, and understanding that can help someone understand good art. Where will this actor's work be in 400 years? Likely forgotten.
