I can't tell how to talk to people going through a crisis. My main forms of comfort seems to be either giving them non commenting hugs or to offer advice. The hugs make me feel impitent and the advice normally makes me feel like I'm arguing. Rarely is what I have to say something the person hasn't thought of, or something that would work. I tend to go for hugs, too, combined with a lot of listening attentively, nodding, asking questions, saying things like "that sucks"...basically making sure they know I'm listening and that I care.

As for the meds, I'm not sure, but might there be cancer related organizations that could help?

Took some time to think about this...

What are the words to help people in a crisis? What can you do to make the hurt go away and bring people out of the abyss to see hope? Relieve anger? Brush away the fear?

What would work if you were in crisis?
