First game of Fifth Gate - Silverfire this past weekend! I hardly know where to start! Exclamation points!

The most important thing first: I had fun and was never bored.

I've known James since high school, and he's seriously an amazing storyteller and one of the best humans on earth. Glad to hear you had fun at his game!

Haha! Small world.

Will you be playing 5G at all?

He was how I was introduced to this whole "larping" thing, so we can all blame him for it. ;) He was also one of the best tabletop GM's I've ever worked with, back in my White Wolf days.

I won't be at 5G, myself. Too many of the people I avoid are there, sadly, and we're still in the process of getting my stress level back down to safe levels again. I'm taking this year off from larping, but will be back at Crossover next year.

Great, thanks for the feedback :) I will keep these in mind.

Given the advice to stay closer, do you think our Inscribed Circle (and Empowered Circle) are worth the CP, since they effectively tie us to one spot (which is probably at least somewhat farther from the line?) Matt's feeling is they will be good in big field fights, but even there I haven't had a chance to pull them out yet.

Another question: I suspect there is value in knowing how much armor and Vit the fighters you are keeping an eye on have. Like, I bet you know exactly how much armor and Vit Kaelin has, and know exactly what type of healing she needs most of the time. Do you have a way of asking this information IC, or is this just something you worked out ahead of time?

I remember in Lost Eidolons, we very frequently set up areas of "triage" so basically there was often a clump of healing in some well protected area that almost never moved. Inscribed/empowered circle would be useful in those cases. But this might not happen in Fifth Gate if situations are different -- we may not often fight in areas that have good triage spots (in LE, they were often the porches on the cabins) we might not often have battles that don't move, and we might not have as much slow healing going on, in which case healers will want to emphasize mobility. We did have a few "defend the ritual" fights, in which case abilities that tie you to one spot are useful, because the ritual will tie people to one spot anyway. (And those spots often need defenders, who often need healing.)

I was involved in the "defend the ritual" fight on Sunday, but I was the one doing the ritual, which made it less of a good time to put down my circle ;)

Other than that, I think the only time I would have felt safe inscribing a circle ("safe" meaning "I'm not going to get ganked or end up on the wrong side of the line by the time I'm done") was during the evil!Jarlath fight. I had enough time to set down my circle and use my event skill that required it, which takes twice as long (2mins instead of 1). Actually, the field fight defending the gate from the Baron's attack on Saturday night would have worked for the same reason -- there I had time to refresh my armor, too (3mins total).

But, in any case, it really wouldn't have done me good, anyway, since there was nothing I could cure!

Thank you for such a thorough review! I've heard great things about the game, and I'm sad that time/distance makes it too difficult for me to PC. I love reading about all these cool details/moments.

Be well.
