This post has been sitting around, half-formed, in my Blog Posts folder since I saw this movie in November. I still don’t feel like it says much, but here, have it anyway… maybe it’ll help if you’re choosing what to watch on video?

A pal and I had been fired up to see "Crimson Peak" since it was first announced-- in part, Because Tom Hiddleston and in part, Because Costumes.

We were both 100% pleased with the results-- both on the above fronts, and others. It was Gothic in the way I expected (and Mr. Hiddles explains in the interview), so that, IMHO, was aces-- some folks were disappointed for various reasons, but it was exactly what I expected, and what I thought the film billed itself to be-- which means that my expectations in that regard were met, and met well.

Concur on all fronts about the costumes.

One thing I noted early on-- I'm really glad they chose not to have Mia Wasikowska be 'made up' cosmetically. No visible eyeliner, mascara, etc.-- which is true to period, and usually skirted by historical films. With Jessica Chastain's darker complexion, some of that can be 'gotten away with,' but there's no way to do it on someone as fair as our protagonist.
