The End of My Childhood

Jul 20, 2011 21:30

Last Sunday, July 17 2011, is my 18th birthday. And I chose to celebrate it by watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 at the IMAX theater Mall of Asia rather than to throw a huge social party.

Here's my photo at the cinema.

Before going to the mall, we had a little party with just my mom and my sister. We ate a hearty meal my mom cooked for my birthday. After that we headed to attend the Sunday mass.

When we arrived at the mall, we immediately hurried at the theater. I am quite impressed to see a lot of people at an early hour. The first showing of HP7 is at 10:30 am but then people are buying their tickets as early as 9:00. We also bought tickets for the first showing of the film. I am so surprised to find that the only seats available are the front row and I bought the tickets so we could watch the movie early.

While waiting for the film to start, we had took a plenty of photographs around the area. They displayed several costumes and props of the Harry Potter franchise.

This is my favorite from what they displayed right beside the ticket booth. I am assuming that this is a costume of Bellatrix Lestrange. If this is a legit costume Helena Bonhan Carter wore, I do not know. But still, I really love this dress. I like the details and it's so gorgeous.

The left one, I think, it is a costume Evanna Lynch wore as Luna Lovegood in the Deathly Hallows part 2. I noticed the blue sweatshirt and the red shorts. And I would pay to have the Defense Against the Dark Arts book and the King Cross ticket. I want to add the book into my bookshelf.

The movie is so flawlessly great. Although there were parts in the book that is still missing and some are altered (which is always expected), I think it's one of the best Harry Potter movies. The Prince's Tale is the best part of it, even it's a bit shortened. Alan Rickman's performance is the best (he deserved an Oscar for that, or any award for that matter). The war at Hogwarts is so visually stunning. The Hermoine/Ron kiss is a great scene too. People on the theater reacted so good in their interactions (they ship it too). The Epilogue is a very sad moment. They looked so old and happy to what had become of them. I personally think the Epilogue is so Harry-centric. They didn't even show the kiss between Victorie and Teddy. But then, I am glad that Harry mentioned Snape being the bravest men he ever known. Unfortunately I had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the film. I regret that I missed almost 10 minutes of the film from the scene that they arrived at Bellatrix's vault to the time they talked to Aberforth. But I can re-watch it when the movie would be released on DVD, right?

After we watched the film, we ate lunch at the Max Restaurant. There I ate my most favorite Leche Flan that I hadn't eaten since a long time. We also shop for a while. I collected three books including Persuasion by Jane Austen, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë and The Diary of the Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney.

We went home afterwards since my mom wants to rest early. As I store my new books, I saw my old ones and noticed the pitiful state of my old books especially the Harry Potter series. I am guilty of not covering them up before reading and storing it on the bookshelf. So now, my new personal project is to cover them up nicely with plastic book covers and organize my bookshelf properly.

Here in the Philippines, when a girl turns 18 it becomes her coming-of-age. It means that I'm no longer a kid and thus I have to be more mature in my ways. Also, watching my childhood end was really sad. I really remember the first time I watched the first Harry Potter movie and how I am interested and eventually obsessed on watching it again and again together with the other films following the first one. That day, July 18, 2011 was really the end of my childhood, figuratively and even literally.
