so the last time i bought a car was october 2004, & it was my well-loved little '99 miata. i truly enjoyed that car & it held up surprisingly well in the twelve years i owned it

Oh, well, fuck you LJ and Cableamerica, my comment got eaten.
I think the car's so *very* pretty. :) I'm all over classic muscle cars - well, some of them. And the 'If i won the lottery' dream would be to track down and buy back the '68 Firebird that was my mom's, and that I learned to drive on. So fucking sweet. :)
I wonder if Cap1 wasn't bothered because it's sort of local...? Who knows! Fucking c.card companies, man - they are weird.
Driving without wipers would have made me have fits, especially in a brand new car! Heh.
You worked, you wanted, you earned it, you go, girl. :)
you might check into it anyhow - i never thought i'd find a porsche 911 i could afford, but here we are!
haha it wasn't very local though, i had to drive an hour to tacoma. but yeah, still funny.
fortunately it was raining the right amount that it was mostly beading up & washing away on its own or i would've pulled over & waited it out. i only had trouble when i got near my home & the streetlamps turned my windshield into an orange disco for five seconds at a time. but i was never in any REAL danger.
it's ironic... i have very little interest in cars myself, but my boyfriend recently spent $800 on a hoopty, i think it was an '82 chevy truck, the doors didn't lock, windows didn't roll down, seatbelts didn't work, the radio antenna was missing, it would stall in second gear, signal lights were not working, starter was dying and had to be replaced eventually, but, hey, it got us from alameda to turlock and back twice, and we drove around here for a month and a half, before the clutch fell apart completely and the car was donated for $200. the end. oh it also carried two motorcycles, a bicycle, a surf board and a large number of remote controlled planes from point a to point b.
yours is definitely much prettier though :)
also, is there a current wish list? (referring to i don't receive gifts..) although i don't have credit cards anymore i still enjoy apt gift giving, silly me.
haha aww, well, you're one of the exceptions in my life on that point. :) technically http://compunction.org/spend.html still exists, but it's pretty out of date. HA & the zerog flight is on it! can cross that off come march... :)
It's wonderful to have a car that you can enjoy driving. That's always been a thing in my family - my grandfather and father loved driving European luxury and sports cars that looked totally out of place in rural Georgia or backwoods Michigan. I actually just sold several of their cars (a Jaguar, 2 Mercedes, 2 MGs, an Austin-Healey, and a 240Z) while we were dealing with the family farm, upon the promise that my dad could get a newer fun car instead of bringing any of those cars home. He says he wants a Miata. :D
We're in the market for a car right now. We're currently debating new low-end vs. used higher-end, and leaning towards the latter. It probably won't be a Porsche.
i've never owned a ~new~ car, though i considered a new miata instead of the porsche. the insurance was actually higher?! what are you looking at for used higher-end? :)
We haven't owned a new car either - I believe the "newest" was 3 years old?
Our current thoughts on "higher-end" are either a brand we wouldn't contemplate at new prices, like Volvo or Audi, or a technology that depreciates quickly, like plug-in electrics. We're boring. It's also hard to imagine buying a new car right now, when our job security as federal contractors is potentially getting worse.
I keep pushing for a DeLorean, but Nick is resistant.
We have already carmiserated, so I want to add that I remember getting into a fight (albeit an obviously minor one) with my travelling buddies over my insistence that they pay for our hotel room in your Florida-to-Seattle trip even though you were not paying :D though I realize that was not your lowest California-to-Florida point. Clearly your travelling companion was the real limitation.

Nice! I tried to do that with the down payment on the last car I bought, but the dealership (not the bank) would only take $1,000 on a card.

Thanks! I'm still around, still don't have a lot to say, but I do peek in from time to time to see what whoever is still left has to say.
