I thought about just skipping this tradition this year since I'm currently gripped by a mild winter depression that is going to affect all my answers. But I'm going to try and ignore that nagging, negative inner voice and try to write about this year without too much angst/pessimism.

I have a similar thing with Christmas/New Years/birthday depression but these days it's a less a sense of panic about social/happiness obligations and more a reflective kind of loneliness and the Oh God It's Another Year Over and I'm Still Alone feels #singleforever
It is your birthday soon and I will be sad to miss it! We should Facetime or Skype or something some time.

I feel you. New Years especially is gross because you have this awful sense of THIS SHOULD BE THE BEST NIGHT OF THE YEAR and you always end up doing whatever sort of comes up, oh I guess this will do.
It doesn't matter how many times you say "I'm gonna boycott new years" - you still end up a bit melancholy. At least you do if you're me. I guess being a non-drinker is definitely not helpful :P
