I wish I felt that way about something! It's an incredibly special and precious experience. I remember feeling that intense at some points in my late teens and early twenties, but nothing that has endured like that for over a decade. You're lucky - remember that :)
I used to do that marathon-of-emotional-gluttony thing with episodes of Buffy. Especially Season 6. I know a lot of people see it as a tacked-on season with a weak Big Bad, but to be honest it's my favourite because of the deepening and solidifying and cruel ripping apart of so many bonds woven together throughout the rest of the series. How do these shows make sadness feel so good?
I know I'm lucky - to have grown up with this fandom and made the friendships I have through it. I really have no idea who I would be today without Xena.
Were your intense feelings in your late teens/twenties about fiction or about real life stuff?
Haha, I remember really disliking Season 6 of Buffy for the same reasons. But yes, Whedon - he really knew how to punch you right in the heart. Erk.
It was excellent seeing to you! The return to reality? Not so much. I really hope that the rumors are correct and there will be another XenaCon in five years.
