Not that this is on everyone's list of Must-Do-Before-I-Die, but if you plan to read one book about The Doors - just one book - then read No One Here Gets Out Alive. Do not read Riders on the Storm by band member John Densmore. I don't care what Robby Krieger says about this book being the "real story". I'm sorry but it is among one the worst ( Read more... )

Could you elaborate? As a book addict, I'm curious what you didn't like. Too slow, didn't make sense, what was it?

Shirley...LOL!! Ok about the book...as far as information, it is fine. It is kind of bland. The person who wrote the book was the drummer for the band and instead of trying to provide further insight into the band he could have gone more into his own experiences. He obviously wasn't very close to the singer and I suppose he felt the pressure to talk about that aspect of his career, but I have a feeling that his own life would have been interesting to hear about. He spends a lot of time going into great detail about things like did he or didn't he get laid at this concert...it just comes across as shallow and superficial as it is. He's just not a writer. When he does try to be philosophical and insightful he comes across as confused. It is clearly out of his realm and I don't think you have to attempt that kind of writing just to be interesting. Simplicity can be interesting. It is all in the details really. The thing is that towards the very end of the book he does actually talk about some issues in his own life that are ( ... )
