I can almost feel his giant sigh of relief.  I remember that relief.  Nobody's reaction matters that much, because it's all about being free from hiding information.

I was thinking about that exactly in relation to you right after I made this post. I was also thinking...there can't be that many out Puerto Rican celebrities. Are there? I wonder if the advent of more openly queer celebrities could have a longterm, gradual impact on the cultural perception of queerness. What do you think?

I don't blame him for hiding either. Even though the cultural problems are rather heavy, did you find that you breathed a bit of a sigh of relief when you came out?

Huuuuge relief at first, because it had taken so much work to hide for all the years that I'd tried to hide. And then I was mad because Mom didn't reply to my coming out at all. It was years later when she finally said anything about it, and it wasn't good at all.

I still feel quite relieved that I don't feel the need to hide anymore, actually...and I've been out to Mom now for around six years, or something like that.
