Silvan Elves - overview of resources, useful links and great stories

Jun 08, 2008 14:43

This is a list of my favourite resources, links and stories; stuff that has formed the basis of my personal views of Haldir, of Silvans and of Lothlórien. Please note that I have of course selected the bits and pieces that support my own opinion. You can probably find many contradicting quotes/theories since Tolkien changed his mind many times over ( Read more... )

canon, silvans, wood-elves, resources, quotes

Wow - this is so interesting! I recently developed a fascination for the Nandor and I'm so happy to find that someone else is also interested in those elusive wood-elves. The fact that there is so little information on them really gives a fan a lot of scope for imagination. :)

Btw - I saw a comment you made on heartofoshun's post on Beleg.. Are you Danish by any chance? I am and I think it would be a lot of fun to find a fellow Dane on here!

Hej hrymfaxe! Ja, jeg er dansk. Det er vel nok hyggeligt at se en landsmand! Hvis du skulle have lyst til at chatte en gang, er jeg tit online om aftenen (se info i min profil) :-)

Oh, suppose I'd better keep this in English:

I'm so glad to hear that you share my interest in Wood-elves and I'd love to discuss them with you. Please let me know if you've detected errors in my notes or could add something - I'm sure I've missed tons of info!

As a matter of fact I visited your LJ just a few days ago after having seen you drawings elsewhere; you are such a talented artist! It must be lovely to be able to draw like that. *is very envious*

Det maa vi kunne finde ud af! (Jeg er i USA lige nu, paa besoeg hos Dawn Felagund, men naar jeg kommer tilbage kunne det vaere rigtig hyggeligt at chatte paa et tidspunkt)

Hmm, yes we are probably being a bit rude, so onwards in English:
I'll have a proper look-through of your notes when I get back to Denmark and have more time on the pc - it looks like you have lots of stuff there though! yay!

and thank you for saying that - I'm just happy I finally found stories to inspire me endlessly as Tolkien's is doing. I have friended you btw - hope you don't mind. ;)

thanks - friended you back. :-)

Tolkien is indeed an amazing source of inspiration, I don't think I'll ever tire of reading his works.

I wish you a wonderful holiday in the US and hope to hear from you once you're back.

Interested in scandinavia/england links and elves? *Glomps Lisser!*

I will admit to being more Noldor focussed right now, but I have a soft spot for 'wood-elves'.

Mind if I friend you?

Thanks, I'll friend you right back! :-)

Glad to hear you like the 'rude and rustic' Silvans; Tolkien did not tell us nearly enough about them and what he did tell he scattered all over the place. It's much easier to find info on the Noldor, but of course I had to fall for the Wood-elves. *g*

Just have to tell you that I love your photos! I've been peeking in on your LJ every once in a while for the last few months, starting this spring. I'd love to take a walk on this path someday: http://morethmusing.livejournal.com/22956.html#cutid1

As to Scandinavia/England links ... well, don't get me started! When I was very young I considered studying this stuff, but ended up doing something much more ordinary (don't think I have a scientific-minded brain anyway). Very interesting subject! Are you mainly interested in the language aspect or in Scandinavian/English connections in general?
