These two little pieces are 'quickies' and a bit raw round the edges, but I really felt like posting them because I was thinking about Maedhros, and how the closest he ever got to having children was taking in Elrond and Elros.

Since he and Maglor did such a fine job with those two, I thought he would have regretted not having any of his own, although - with the oath etc - it was probably for the best. But it's still terribly sad.

I loved these two ficlets. Maedhros is one of my favorite characters and both of these stories are so entertaining. And Cirdan... I love the thought of a baby clutching his beard! And poor Fingon... no one likes it when family brings up embarrassing bits from their childhood. *grin*

Círdan being involved from the child's birth is perhaps stretching it a bit, but on the other hand, why not?

Anyway, I bet an elven child (as clever as Tolkien said they were) would not have to be very old to wonder about all that strange face-hair.

And I imagine it would have been very strange... wasn't Cirdan the only Elf with a beard, because of his extreme age or something like that? Skating on thin ice with my sketchy knowledge of all things Elven!

Exactly! Your knowledge doesn't seem that sketchy to me. lol

I imagine the little one would never have met another person with a beard and would wish to touch it.

Maedhros must have envied his cousin; judging from how Elros and Elrond turned out, his parenting skills were excellent. But he would have been afraid of passing on the 'curse' (the Oath). :-(
