My first MEFAs

Jan 03, 2010 14:39

YAY!!! The email from the MEFAs was waiting for me this morning with good news:

Passing received Second Place in Races: Elves: Incomplete

Thank you, Oshun, for nominating this story! *hugs*

A Matter of Cultural Differences received First Place in Genres:
Humor: Elven Legends

Thank you to Viv for nominating Erestor! XD

People really liked the Erestor-story which is great - I'm pretty fond of it myself. :-)

Right now, I'm trying to make up my mind about the banner: NiRi made a lovely 'MEFA nominee' banner with Erestor and Gwirith, but  the customized one - and using that one would save the MEFA-manippers some work - actually also suits the story quite well: Elrond is looking baffled and Ereinon in the background is shaking his head. I can just imagine Erestor having made a remark to cause that effect. *g*

To be completely honest, Passing placed higher than I felt it deserved. Now don't get me wrong, I love my little story, but there were some excellent works in progress in the [Elves: Incomplete] category; it was quite intimidating to read those stories when the MEFAs opened. I would have voted for them over mine any day!

But then it was also a rather 'mixed' category. The stories were really very different, spanning from angsty over hilariously funny to scholarly, and those differences probably explain some of it.

As you can probably understand, I'm over the moon about the results. It is so much more than I expected for my first participation in the MEFAs. My only regret is that I did not manage to review more than approx. half the stories on my wishlist. *headdesk* Reviewing took so much more of me than I expected and in the end I kept reminding myself 'its the characters  that count, not the phrasing of the review!'. Some of you will probably know what I'm referring to - sorry!

But all in all, it's been a very positive experience and I'm really glad to have participated.

Thank you so much to everybody who read and reviewed my stories! I haven't replied to all reviews yet, but will try to hurry up.
