Definitely Amazon (.com, .co.uk, .fr, as the occasion requires).
I have had excellent results with their associates' offers of used and end-of-stock books: they cost less, are often delivered faster, and give me the added pleasure of watching the signs past readers left on them. Plus, remainders give access to out-of-print editions: I put my hands recently on a book printed in 1949, which I had been searching for 40 years =)
Only once the book I ordered came in questionable conditions: it was Nimoy's "I am Spock", coming from New Orleans, and visibly, at one time, drenched in water. Maybe a Katrina salvage...?

Definitely a possibility. Did you send it back? I'd have kept it if I thought it came from Katrina, to be honest, and maybe just ordered another if it was truly unusable.

That's amazing about your book! I haven't made much use of Amazon sellers, I really only order online when I'm desperate for a title. Last time it was for an out-of-print Spanish edition of A Brief History of Time as a gift to my grandfather. I had one iffy experience with Amazon, where I ordered a (frankly terrible) recording of Bizet's first stage work, Le Docteur Miracle, which came about a month after the expected arrival, with no warning from the seller. Since then I've been a bit wary of it.

I recommend Swap.com if you have things you want to get off your hands. I've received a couple of out-of-print books from users there as well.

7. Hmm... I'm kind of tempted. Where do you watch? or do you torrent it?
5. I should rewatch some Trek episodes. I get so confused sometimes though, what with all the fanfiction I've read and the stuff that's become my personal canon.
2. can you recommend any good brands? I think I hate milk because I started out with Hershey's.

2. Oh dear, lots... Um, recently? Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss and Demon's Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan. But I love lots of fantasy/scifi (Tamora Pierce, Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Isaac Asimov, etc).
8. I guess that I've been dancing for more than 12 yars, which is weird to think about! I mostly do ballet/pointe, but I also really like tap. I've done a little bit of jazz, but not recently.

1. The pics you posted make me want to ask how you met. You look amazing together (he's so tall!).
2. Did I say congratulations? I don't think I did. Let me remedy that situation: CONGRATULATIONS!
6. I watched a bunch of those Sketchers shape-up shoe commercials... they said "it's like walking on sand." I don't particularly care for walking on sand. (I swear this comment is somehow related to running)
8. This.
9. :D
10. I wish I could fly. Really, I do.

1. I had a friend who worked at a bakery and they didn't like eating whatever they made so much as making it. Do you think this is generally true?
2. was tempted to roll my eyes-- you're in California! When do you guys not have a gorgeous day?
7. Which do you like better, cooking or baking? I'm okay at cooking, but I'm terrible at baking. chocolate chip cookies have never been so rock hard. as for brownies, a friend of mine roped me into baking brownies for the entire graduating class in high school. suffice to say I hated brownies after that.
9. I never know how to hang up.
10. She's as cute as a button.

1. I think most food workers who deal with the same thing all day long start to get a bit sick of it.
2. Hey! We get rain in the winter. And then the world ends because no one in LA knows how to drive when the roads are wet.
7. I like cooking better because you don't need to be so precise. It's easier to screw up baking. That said, I like making cookies and pies. Not so much with cakes and such, though mostly that's because the oven in my apartment is uneven and it's hard to judge when things are done.
10. Thank you. :) That calls for her icon.

2. Pssh. Rain. We're about to hit with a hurricane. This Earl business is kind of exciting, kind of "damn, there goes Labor Day Weekend"
7. That's interesting because my friend said that baking gives more leeway, not less. She also said she has a good feel for the ingredients, what she can substitute and what she can't. It sounded like it was kind of soothing thing for her, being able to bake something and share it with her roommates the next hour.
