She's in Buxton, which is... oh, I don't know. Somewhere near Portland. I'm kind of terrible with figuring out where things are in relation to other things.

But yes! We'll be up several times over the next few months and would love to coordinate with you!

Oh, now I remember.

In the dog world, show/breeder litters (I have no idea about dogs bred for racing, working, agility, etc.) often are named along a theme. In addition to their themed kennel/show name, a show dog -- especially one going to a pet home -- will also have an everyday "call name."

In this case, we heard that the breeder was favoring a theme based on "super." So we brainstormed. We like science and such, and proposed supernova (along with superstring theory, supercalifragilistic, and supersonic). Em pointed out that 'nova' went along with Northern Virginia, too! So that sealed it, provided the breeder liked it too.

That led me to google women astronomers, which in turn led me to discover Annie Jump Cannon, a remarkable woman I'd never heard of. With an awesome name herself, I might add ( ... )

"Oh, so she's a show dog. Do you have a buzzy bee for her, too?"

"You were gone for a half-hour and all you come back with is this purple thing!?" Hahaha, I love that movie.

Annie's adorable.
