When Professor Kuin conceived the idea that we should survey friends and family members about whether or not they had an appetite for poetry, I jumped right to the occasion. I quickly called up all my friends and annoyed my brother with "whys" until he basically told me to f#%* off. Regardless, I found some really interesting results ( Read more... )

You have a good point Lisa when you ask that the Hallmark poem be viewed for what it is. I really didn't think of it that way, I was simply eager to jump on the haters bandwagon. But who is the universal consumer? Because I would presume you and I would have to be considered in that group, but I have to say I hate that poem and I am opting out of the 'universal consumer club'. I would rather be an independant consumer than part of a consuming group that would purchase crap like that.

Hey Lisa, I found your post to be very thought provoking, especially the idea of looking at the Hallmark poem as something that needed to be general in order to sell. I hadn't thought of it that way and I probably should have as it was something people were meant to buy. I still find the poem to be really horrible but now I somewhat understand why. It was a wonderful first post, welcome to Group E!

I like your admission of the sick pleasure you get in the 'universal consumer' poetry you read, its like film or television. I mean we all seem to have a dirty little program we like to watch, for alot of people its that horrible OC ("California...CCCCCCAAALLLLLLL"), you know how it goes, its not mine, mine would have to be Sponge Bob SquarePants, yeah yeah I dont know if its better or worse then the OC, its just my little secret....well not anymore.
Very brave of you by the way to post your young poetry online, I was just wondering if you had to do it for a class or you just did it as a hobby?
hope to read more from you,
-Lesley-Anne
