i don't like explaining lyrics or talking about them, because i'm always trying to say more than one thing from more than one point of view with them.
with that said... when you experience life in an isolated manner you're really not experiencing anything, because you're processing it all in terms of things you already know. it's like trying to learn another language from the sounds of the words and an english dictionary.

From my experiences, lyric writing is an altogether different discipline than poetry writing. When writing lyrics, you are not only confined by the english language (as in poetry writing), but by "layman's" english language; one must avoid decorative or flowerly language, lest one be accused of writing pretentious prog rock. I find it imperative to read lyrics aloud; some phrases and non-sequitors seem to take on a life of their own out of context of the song, which is one certain phrases (particularly those of a paradoxical nature) become more readily embodied in ones subconscious than others.
