I have one more week until school starts again, time for a summer retrospective.
This summer I have:
- completed my graphic design senior seminar
- got more serious about creating a portfolio
- said goodbye to 4 friends(kyle, lex, dan, jorge)
- did some oil painting
- tried to get back into photography
- became more comfortable with a soldering iron
- took over a room in my parents house as my painting studio
- learned to roll joints and blunts better
- changed my spark plugs and wires
- cleaned my car
- got back into computer gaming(thank you CoD4)
- puked way too many times
- completed a counter-strike:source skin
- went to cedar point
- not gotten caught up in some retarded deal with crackhead drug dealers(i suppose because they were all in jail this summer lol)
- actually enjoyed myself at some family events
- got my hair cut
hmmm hard to remember what else I did this summer, but it was one of the nicer summers that I've had in a while. Didn't go too quick and I don't feel like I missed out on doing anything.
Odd thinking that this will be my last year of college. This semester I am taking all studio classes so that should be interesting. Scheduled watercolor, oil painting, and advanced typography all on the same days so my tuesday and thursday are going to be pretty bad. 9 hours stuck on the 3rd floor of old main, but atleast the people in the painting studio are awesome and I'm kind of excited to finally have Judith for graphic design. Then I have Jayson for beginning sculpture on monday and wednesday, kind of nervous since I hear he like to work his students, but that could be good for me since I don't normally try to push for a fast pace of work.
Also odd thinking that this is how it will end. I guess I thought that I'd find myself drifting away from wayne state and going to CCS once I had some experience, but I've found myself not wanting to give up the Wayne State experience. CCS just seems so competitive, where instead of students working together they would work against each other. Now I don't know if that is necessarily true, but I've heard it enough to not want to go there anymore. The ability to talk to other students and be able to feel like we're all going through the same thing is really what kept me at Wayne. No one really touts their skills or looks down on others for not having the same ability, but it's more an understanding that what is different in each others work is what makes it unique and interesting. Then again I don't really know how CCS really is, it might be a nicer environment than wayne, but it just seems like I hear a lot of negativity from teachers and past students.
Oh well now I find myself trying to get 2 paintings done by next Tuesday or Thursday.
