13 Fathoms Down ☠ [voice + action]

[voice]

There's been a change in the air here, in Luceti; I've felt it. Tia Dalma has been sent home. We're down one sea goddess, and a monkey-loving doctor as well. I've not seen John Watson about. Good on them, eh?

Mildmay-me-lad---time for some scraping. A gentleman does not keep the Joanna Joyce waiting at the high water mark.

[ buffy feels as though she barely slept. there must have been a few moments in there, though. because she had certainly woken up. but she does not feel refreshed -- though there had been a blissful few seconds after waking where she had forgotten all about giles' death.

but then she remembered.

and now? well, now she was reading the back of a cereal box she had left at jack's house before the move. a bowl of the stuff was perched in front of her -- dry and untouched as she tries to solve the simple maze put there for kids. she is still in the clothes she arrived in. her eyes are still red. ]

[Eventually Jack has to wander indoors to find his whetstone. He had to get up early to get the boat in on the morning tide, and he had regretted leaving Buffy sleeping alone. He had justified not waking her with the truth of how difficult sleep had been for her the night before.

If she doesn't already know he is standing behind her in the kitchen, he will alert her to his presence with a hand on her shoulder.]

It's a devilishly tricky one. I fear the small orange bear will be trapped in the Rainbow Berry Forest til Heaven's seal cracks asunder.

[ she turns her head at the feel of his hand. she knew he was there prior, of course. an arrival isn't the sort of thing she easily misses no matter what her state. ]

It says here that it's suitable for ages four and up. Four and up. [ buffy traces a doomed route. ] Do you have any milk?

You're older than four, Annie. [He tosses that remark over his shoulder as he sorts through the pantry shelves. Finally he pulls out milk---the canned variety. Nothing else will keep in a house without a refrigerator or any alternative type of cooling system.]

Here---I've a tin opener someplace.

Scraping?

No. I am sure that I have no desire to know.

I've got to get this hull in order, Admiral. Pity you're more used to ordering men about than pitching in and lending an able seaman a hand yourself.

Had you but asked.

Admiral James Norrington, will you set your fancy wig aside for an afternoon and help me beat the tide and finish with the port side of my lovely yacht?

Wonderful. One less goddess to worry about.

You're doing well, I trust.

Kennedy!

[Jack pauses; he hadn't expected the young sailor to respond. Cautiously:]

You up and about yet, son?

Not till Wednesday. At least, that is when he's letting me out of this infernal prison.

[Spoken with less good cheer than is normal to hear from him.]

Shame; I could use a hand on this hull. I reckon I've another five hours or so before the tide's back. There's decking to install as well.

McCoy, though---be warned that that man will keep you til you've gone bilge-rat-crazy, Kennedy. Take it from one who's been there.

Ain't no gentleman, but I'll be round all the same. That bridge, again?

lists_to_port June 20 2011, 17:49:28 UTC
No, the bridge won't do at all. You need to come out to the sea, son. Know you the barracks?

ohmykethe June 20 2011, 17:58:18 UTC
I ain't been, but I can find it. The barracks is down southish on this here map? [Oh, guide, he never thought you would come in handy.]

Aye---southish from the village. Almost due southish, really. You'll find the transporter down there, boyo.

Sea Goddess? They don't exist!

[The rest of the broadcast just kind of flies past his head.]

Really. What're your thoughts on monkey-loving doctors, then?

There's nothing wrong with that. A man can love whatever it wants.

Sea Goddess are more questionable unfortunately.

Tia wasn't a bit questionable. Macabre? Aye. She were mightily macabre, but not questionable. What know you of sea goddesses that you reject the fact of their existence right out?
