Annie Walker is a fucking mess. She's unemployed, living with her mom, single but in a terrible fuck buddy relationship with a truly disgusting man, and her best friend is getting married and, apparently, making a new best friend. That's a lot of shitty stuff to take all at once, and, at times, it can make Annie really unlikable.
And that's why I like Annie. Annie's heart is generally in the right place, but she's also petty, vindictive, competitive, and self-destructive. It's hard to find female characters that feel real; there are plenty of female characters who are likable but not necessarily true to life. At times, Annie is a little too true to life; in fact, at times, it can be downright uncomfortable how much she resembles life. Yeah, Annie does crazy things like getting stoned on an airplane and destroying a bridal shower, but, at the end of the day, she still comes through.
And that's pretty kick-ass.
