Hello from another newbie, my name is DJ, 38 year old writer working on a first novel and easily distracted by short stories and the long notes detailing them
( Read more... )
Hi DJ! Congrats of getting some earlier pieces published, even though you say you no longer relate to them. It's odd but wonderful how we continually grow as writers; I always look back at old stuff and wonder what I was thinking. What sort of novel are you working on?
I agree, it is interesting sometimes to read the stuff from years ago and wonder where it came from. I guess I don't relate to the person I was then or feel it represents a more juvenile phase. Not sure!
The basics about my novel are pretty simple: two people - one a writer, the other a photographer - in a long-time relationship are in the process of falling out of love, still trying to find the common thread to hang on to. The story itself is framed as a story-within-a-story as it moves back and forth from the central characters to the story the writer/protagonist is writing - a sort of end-of-days tale about two young girls on their own in the aftermath of a cataclysmic event.
What about yourself? Any projects you are working on?
Your project sounds interesting! I'm guessing the characters must have strong personalities. I will look forward to hearing more about it as you work on it.
I am between projects right now. I recently completed a novel for teens, then got some feedback that made me rethink parts of the story, so I need to do some serious editing and rewriting once I've figured out how to fix it all. Until then, I am just jotting down ideas and notes.
Congrats on completing - hope all the feedback was constructive and you can get back to it soon. There is nothing like being in that vague area where you're questioning what you do and finding your way back again. Good luck!
Hi DJ! Welcome to the community. I don't know how late to the party I am but that's what I get for ignoring my blog for a week or two >,<
Congrats on your previous success. I'm sure it will benefit your current WIP. And your former teacher sounds like a wise person who must have infuriated a few grammar nazis over the years.
