Fanfaction to me is still something I'll always love. I was writing it not even knowing the term was fanfiction. Love reading it too. It's one of the first things I do when I 'discover' a new show. But I would NEVER want people offline to know what I write, let alone read. And not just because of the privacy factor. It can be used against you both offline and online. And I learned (kind of) the hard way that it might be best to keep those two worlds separate.
But the legal issue is the bigger one. When you've send your story it, it seems like it becomes theirs. To do with as they want. So no credit to you. And I'm sure 14 year olds won't read the fine print. Like the first TVD writer...
