And now, a new story, introducing Lea, Ariella's older sister. Ariella's nine in this, Lea twelve. Enjoy. Joint posted to non_plot

The young woman followed the sounds of sniffling toward the tree. The sound was the only physical thing she had to track her quarry with. The half-moon gave off little light, and once she was under the old walnut tree, there’d be even less. The only reason she headed in this direction was because of the time she and her quarry had spent there, in the branches. Time that was coming to an end.

An easy running jump and she caught the bottom branch, some twenty feet up. She heard a soft gasp from above, her quarry surprised at the maneuver. She wouldn’t have been able to do it last night, and marveled at the gifts Uriel had given her. Using the gasp as a point of reference, she scooted, twisted and pulled herself up in front of her little sister. “Mind if I join you?” she asked. The little shadow lifted and dropped, accentuated with another sniffle. The young woman settled herself on the branch, and put her arm around the little girl. They sat in silence for a while, with the an occasional sniffle to break up the monotony.

“Mom says crying is bad,” the little girl finally, “but I don’t want you to go!” With that, the little girl flung her arms around her sister and began to sob. The young woman just held her as her own silent tears came, until she could trust her voice not to waver.

“I’m gonna miss you too, Arie,” Lea said.

“Mom said missing you’s selfish. She says I should be happy, because you’re anointed now, and can carry out God’s will,” Ariella managed to get out between sobs. “ And I really am, but I’m sadder.” Lea sighed.

“I’m going to tell you a secret. Mom isn’t always right,” Lea said. “She’d say that being scared is bad. That going to fight is what I was born to do, and should face what’s coming bravely. But I can’t help being scared.”

Ariella quieted herself some and turned her head up to try and see her sister’s face. “Lea, are you going to die?” The was curiosity in the question along with the fear and loneliness.

“I don’t know. I hope not.”

“Lea, am I ever going to see you again?” There was real terror here. At least, when they died, they would meet in heaven. If she never saw her again, that meant Lea’s soul had been destroyed. Or worse, corrupted.

“I really hope so,” Lea replied, and rested her head on Ariella’s. Then they cried for a long while.
