A flat tax is, IMHO, a terrible idea. 4% of minimum wage is far, far more, in terms of how much spending power it takes away, than 4% of 250,000/year, say.

I'm curious why you would think it is a good idea? Not trying to start a fight, but this struck me as odd, considering what I know about your other political positions.

I don't advocate what's been put forth the flat tax that most people envision, the proposals put forth by Dick Armey and Steve Forbes, because you're right, they are in no way an improvement on the system we already have.

The system I would like to see simplifies the tax code. It would cut out tax preparers, people would know what they paid, and if you were below a certain level, you wouldn't pay any taxes at all.

I think some of the recent proposals have given the idea of a flat tax a bad name.

Huh. I admit that I don't follow this particularly closely, but I've only ever heard one "flat tax" proposal, really, for years and years ( ... )

Well, this question made me think about the tax preparation course a few years ago, when the inequities of the tax system became really apparent ( ... )
