That and 90% of the funniest bits are told in narrative, which never works in a movie.

Yes! It's really hard to execute this book in film form. The asides are so integral to the story, but it's incongruous in a movie.

I wonder how the radio series is???

It's pretty good, actually! Hard to find a decent copy with good sound quality though.

Agreed. But the second movie was far, FAR worse, I thought. For a moment, I thought Zaphod was pretty well played, like a certain cocky "southern" asshole of an ex-president. Then I did a bit of research and found out it was not Bush they were basing Zaphod on--it was Clinton! Well, F that. The first movie does a better job at capturing the dry British humor, being that it was a BBC production, and also, I can still see Ford's sweatervest in my head. Sweet!

PS- I'm currently preparing for Towel Day by rereading The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.
