Get over it!!! Stop complaining and doooooo something about it. Is that mean? Really Shane, to say that you are too nice is simply not an accurate assessment, lots of people are nice (myself excluded apparently) but still get more recognition than they ever would need. And while you shouldn't want to "marry me" for this information, you need to stop feeling so sorry for yourself and stand up to your colleagues, and if you still feel underappreciated, take steps to getting there ( ... )

Well, apart from schmoozing and buying you a kitten, I've done everything. I didn't mean to give the impression I've been silently complaining. Everyone in my office has seen the intensity of my job-how I'll come in late in the mornings, scruffy with a gravelly voice because I was worked 16 hours the day before.

The larger problem is that there are people twice my age who have worked for the organization much longer, whose salaries are not much higher than mine. It's also easy to discount my value because many people still consider me a student.

So, the new strategy is to be openly recalcitrant. My superiors have made it evident that I have nothing to gain for playing by their rules, so I will still exceed expectations but in a manner that distinguishes my authority from theirs.
