Sherlock Holmes Possibility

Alright, I need opinions. This may be a strange question. For quite some time, I've been considering getting the quote: "Come at once if convenient- if inconvenient come all the same." Obviously from Sherlock Holmes, and relatively well known. I love the way it sums up their friendship & find it apropos to mine as well. However! I'm a little ( Read more... )

You might want to think about where you'd put it on your body. It also might be less likely to be misconstrued if it's in a computer-y, text-y font, maybe.

That said, I LOVE BBC Sherlock and I love this idea for a tattoo!

Thank you! I know, I already loved the books, but I can honestly say that I've never obsessed over a show the way I have this one.

I'm already in the process of getting a floral piece (with bees, also a Sherlock nod) on my thigh, and had originally thought of including the quote as part of it. You're probably right about the text-type font, although I had also thought of getting it in a nearly illegible, spikey cursive (because I just don't see Sherlock writing too neatly.)

If your planned placement is going to put it 'on show', as long as you're prepared for questions about it I think it's OK. It's a subtle enough innuendo that people will question rather than be offended I think. Honestly, I think the most common question will be 'can you hold still so I can read your tattoo?' as it's long enough a phrase that people will need time to process it.

Ahh, that's a good point. I was hoping that the wording might be weird enough that it wouldn't jump out that way. The original idea was to put it on my thigh with a new floral piece, which has the benefit of not being seen often, for fewer explanations.

Firstly, I love that quote!

Secondly, where are you thinking of placing it? Somewhere very visible, or somewhere that is usually covered? You could simply decide to have it in a less obvious place where you can expose or conceal it as desired. Also, were you planning to just have the text? You could easily help people figure out the Sherlock connection by working in some kind of Sherlock design, like a pipe or the deerstalker etc.

Thanks! As mentioned above, the original idea was to put it on my thigh, but in conjunction with a botanical-esque floral piece (with bees, which is another Sherlock reference, but again, a subtle one.)

I was (embarrassingly) unfamiliar with that quote and did not at all think of anything sexual when I read over a few times it until you mentioned it further down in the entry.

ETA: there IS the chance for poor placement here, though.

Thank you! You were the perfect target audience, then. :) I understand that there will be the occasional misinterpretation, I'd just rather that not be the default response.

Thanks for you thoughts! I had been thinking of an very spikey, sort of illegible handwriting (rather than a pretty cursive,) but you may be on to something with the typeface.
