Review in 5 words or less: "Modern" noir | Great atmosphere & pacing | witty dialogues | clever, surprising plot & likable main character |
Personal Rating: ◊ ◊ ◊ of 5.
Review:
Noir has reached modern times with John Corey, sardonic smart-ass cop on leave. I really enjoyed his dry style of narrating the surprisingly clever and well-plotted story. Add to that some great dialogues and really impressing research as well as a great atmosphere and beautifully detailed descriptions of the settings and I'm happy. Never mind that the ending is a bit Hollywood-like. It fits very well into that story. Recommended for those moments when you need a smart-ass detective to cheer you up.
