Chapter 380: Not the Only One
Tati: Mama, are you sad?
Rayna: No…of course not. This is our new home. I’m…happy we’re here.
Tati: Are there other kids?
Rayna: I don’t know.
*They run into Grace*
Grace: Oh my…Rayna? Is that you?
Rayna: Grace! Yes, it’s me.
Grace: Wow…is this your daughter? She sure is beautiful.
Rayna: Yes, this is Tati.
*Rayna sits down but is quiet*
Grace: Rayna…you seem sad. Are you okay?
Rayna: I was just excited to come home and it’s not quite turning out how I was hoping.
Grace: It’ll be okay.
Rayna: But…
Grace: What is it?
Rayna: *to Tati* Why don’t you get down and look around a little?
*Tati wanders around and Rayna speaks low to Grace so she won’t hear*
Rayna: It’s Tati’s ears…I thought coming here people wouldn’t notice as much.
Grace: But someone said something?
Rayna: Jonas.
Grace: *smiles* Well…you are close friends and he probably doesn’t worry about what he says when he’s with you.
Rayna: It still hurts. And I’m so worried about Tati all the time and what people say and think.
Grace: I think I know a way to help you feel better.
Rayna: You do?
Grace: Yes. Get Tati and come with me.
A Little While Later…
Grace: You remember Oki, right Rayna?
Rayna: Yes.
Oki: Oh look! Another little girl! This is perfect.
Rayna: What do you mean?
Grace: Oki and I are starting a preschool especially for the children living at the house. We would love to have Tati and I bet she’ll make a lot of friends.
Rayna: There are other kids?
Oki: Quite a few.
Rayna: But…
Penelope: Mommy, look! She got pretty ears like mine!
*Tati smiles at Penelope*
Oki: She sure does.
Penelope: Now I won’t be the only one.
*Penelope takes Tati to play with her toys together*
Rayna: I’m so relieved…Tati won’t be the only one with…different ears.
Oki: I think she will fit in very well. All the kids living here are very sweet and accepting.
Rayna: Coming home was the right thing to do. *lets out a huge sigh of relief*
Rayna: Grace…thank you.
Grace: I’m glad I could help.

Lovely, mature Grace. She, of course, did not mention Tati's ears until Rayna brought it up. Well, we knew she would have more tact. :P But notice she didn't trash Jonas when Rayna told her what he said. Grace is really my most mature character. She broke up with Jonas but she isn't going to drag him through the mud at every opportunity. Anyway, I liked the bit where Penelope says "pretty ears like mine". :P Because they ARE pretty! I think Tati will be fine. ;) I can sympathize with Rayna, all moms worry about their kids for various reasons.
