Chapter 452: Connections
Toby: I have to run over to the store, Shelby.
Shelby: What for? You aren’t working.
Toby: I just need to drop off a few things and make sure the kitchen is ready in the morning.
Shelby: Okay. Don’t stay long, we’re going to have dinner soon.
Toby: And you need me to cook, right?
Shelby: *laughs* Of course.
*Toby starts to leave*
Shelby: Oh…Toby, wait!
Toby: What?
Shelby: Um…why don’t you take Phoebe with you? She might like the store.
Phoebe: Huh?
Toby: Oh…Phoebe, you haven’t been to “The Sweet Shoppe” yet?
Phoebe: Er, the what?
Toby: The place I work.
Phoebe: Nah, it’s okay. I’ll just stay here.
Toby: It’s a girly store, you’d probably like it.
Shelby: Go on, Phoebe. It will be fun…and you can spend a little time with Toby.
Phoebe: *sigh* Oh, alright.
Shelby: Have fun!
*Toby and Phoebe walk to “The Sweet Shoppe” together…in total silence*
Meanwhile…
Gideon: Ivy, can I talk to you for a second?
Ivy: *uneasy* Um…okay.
Gideon: I’m just on my way home, but I wanted to see you and apologize for being nosy the last time we talked.
Ivy: Oh…that’s…it’s okay.
Gideon: I made you feel uncomfortable. I didn’t mean it.
Ivy: You were just curious. Really, it’s okay.
Gideon: As a gesture of friendship I brought you this. *hands Ivy a small package*
Ivy: What is it?
Gideon: My CD. Well, you don’t have to listen to it if you don’t want to…I just thought you might…
Ivy: Oh, I do want to listen to it. Thanks!
Gideon: What kind of music do you like?
Ivy: *blushes* I’m not that picky really. I like music, but I’m not particular. I’m embarrassed to say I just listen to whatever comes up on the radio.
Gideon: That’s nothing to be embarrassed about. Well, I hope you like my CD.
Ivy: I’m sure I will.
Gideon: Maybe.
Ivy: Don’t be so hard on yourself…I’ve heard you sing, remember?
Gideon: Yeah…don’t tell me if you hate it.
Ivy: I’m not much of a critic anyway, and I’ll be kind so don’t worry.
Gideon: Thanks, Ivy. See you later.

Toby is still trying to make some kind of connection with Phoebe...with a lot of Shelby's help. :P But I think Phoebe might like the store. And just in case you weren't sure (because I've never really brought it way out in the open in the story) Toby is a pastry chef and now he does the baking in Kiki's place at "The Sweet Shoppe". He's a very good cook in general, which is why Shelby wants him to make dinner. XD
And Gideon and Ivy are still friends even though Ivy got so uncomfortable during their last conversation.
