Chapter 37:
*Alex is sitting alone*
Alex: *sigh* Why can’t I stop thinking of her. It’s obvious to me now that she doesn’t care about me.
*Alex pulls the necklace Madison gave him out from his shirt and looks at it*
Alex: I thought she might love me…but I was wrong.
*Alex removes the necklace*
Alex: I have to let her go. I have to move on and try to be happy again…
*Alex walks away, leaves the necklace behind*
Toby: *looks wistfully at Roxanne and Wolfgang*
Shelby: Toby? Is something the matter?
Toby: No…I was just thinking…uh…
Shelby: What is it?
*Toby takes Shelby’s hand*
Toby: I was thinking about Roxanne and Wolfgang. You know, we’ve been together longer than they have and now they are getting married. Have you…uh, I mean…do you ever think about getting married?
Shelby: *smiles* Oh yes.
Toby: You do?
*Shelby touches her necklace*
Shelby: Do you remember when you gave me this necklace?
Toby: Of course.
Shelby: You said I had the key to your heart. That’s still true, right?
Toby: You know it is.
Shelby: I knew then…I knew in my heart that you and I were meant for each other. I still know that. I know someday we will get married, just like Roxanne and Wolfgang.
Toby: Really, you want to get married?
Shelby: I want to be with you. I’m just not in a hurry to get married, but I know it will happen someday…if you’ll have me.
Toby: What? Don’t be silly, you know I want you and only you.
*kiss*
*Oki and Crispin catch up with Grace*
Crispin: Grace, are you okay? We were worried about you.
Grace: I’m fine, really. I’m just being silly. Please don’t be concerned.
Crispin: Are you thinking about your husband?
Grace: You’re blunt, aren’t you?
Crispin: I am. Sorry.
Grace: Don’t be sorry. I was thinking of my husband, this party does make me miss him. But it’s more than that. You know I’ve been thinking of trying to meet someone new…I’m just afraid of being untrue to the memory of my husband. I still love him, you know.
Oki: You can still love him and love someone else. Love comes in unlimited quantities. And…he wouldn’t want you to be alone for the rest of your life, would he?
Grace: No. He wouldn’t. I know he’d want me to find someone to love again…we talked about it before. It’s just hard.
Crispin: Well, you know we’ll help in any way you want. Just let us know.
Grace: Thanks. Really…thank you.
*Madison is looking for Alex*
Madison: I thought I saw him over here…
*Madison sees something nearby*
Madison: What is this?
*Madison picks up the necklace Alex left behind*
Madison: Oh…it’s my necklace…the one I gave Alex. But what is it doing here? …Oh no! Alex probably left it here…what if I’m too late? *worried*

Just a small note about this part of the story (so there's no confusion), Shelby and Toby are NOT engaged, they are just having one of the those conversations many couples have about what they want or see for their future. They are very open with each other, that's all :D I just thought it was a cute extra to thrown in the story since Toby and Shelby have been a couple for many months more than Roxanne and Wolfgang, it seemed natural that one or both of them might think, "hey, what about us?"
