I've been listening to a lot of their music lately. While most "retro" acts simply annoy me because they are generally nothing more than shallow shadows of style without insight (see the "neo-swing" craze of the 90's for a perfect example), The Bird and The Bee seem to have figured out a lot of just what made certain intimate aspects of 60's and 70's soul and lounge just so incredibly cool and tasty.
I love this video, too. It reminds me somehow of a younger Hal Hartley, and not only because Greg Kurstin seems to wear a Martin Donovan-like scowl most of the time. There's a deadpan sensibility here that's punctuated with little vibrant moments of fun absurdism. It's like the donut grammar lesson in Henry Fool - a serious scene about a serious topic with a ridiculous overtone ("They're the donut people.").
If you liked "Again and Again," also check out "Polite Dance Song." Good stuff, very good stuff.
