“You look lost.”

Yunho bit his lip guiltily and pulled the lopsided ribbon out of Eunyoung’s tangled black hair. Eunyoung complained about Yunho’s lack of hair styling skills and playfully hit the man with her teddy bear.

Jaejoong shook his head and took the ribbon out of Yunho’s hands. He smiled at Yunho as he brushed Eunyoung’s hair and then tied the ribbon easily. “If you needed help, you could’ve just asked me.”

“I’m not good with children.” Yunho admitted as he admired Jaejoong’s handiwork, pulling slightly at the ribbon, “Or hairstyling.” He glanced at Jaejoong, “And that is why I have short hair.”

“Uncle Joongie! Help me too!”

Horan ran into the room and pushed Yunho away, placing herself in between the two men. She jumped up and down, her black curls bouncing with each excited motion.

Jaejoong leaned down, “What do you want me to help you with? You already look so pretty!” he grinned at her, and the young girl blushed. Jaejoong looked past Horan and up at Yunho, “Don’t you think she looks pretty Yunho?” “You look very pretty Horan.”

“Thank you.” The girl said shyly, swaying her skirt. She looked around the room and picked her bag for trick or treating off the floor. “Let’s go! Let’s go!” Horan ran out of the room, and Jaejoong sighed, shaking his head at the young girl’s sudden burst of energy.

Eunyoung watched the two men carefully, “I’m ready to go too Uncle Joongie.” She said quietly from her place on the bed.

“Well then, let’s go.” Jaejoong held his hand out, and Eunyoung took it as they walked out of the room.

Jaejoong turned his head to look at Yunho, who was smiling at them from behind. He told Eunyoung to catch her sister so that they could go through the trick or treating route together, and stayed back so that Yunho could catch up.

Yunho locked the door of Sohyun’s house and followed Jaejoong to the gate.

“You’re walking slowly.” Jaejoong chided jokingly, a smile on his face. “If you’re going to be this slow for the rest of the night, I’ll regret the fact that I invited you to go trick or treating with me and the girls.”

“I’m sorry, I’ll pick up my pace.” Yunho apologized, “I wouldn’t want the girls to run out of candy.”

“If they don’t get anything good, they’ll be sure to blame you. I go trick or treating with them every year, and they always get the good kinds.” Jaejoong said as he led Yunho to where the twins were waiting for them on the street. “You do this every year?”

Jaejoong nodded and placed his hands in his pockets, “Every year. It’s a bit of a ritual I suppose.” He turned his head and looked at Yunho, “It’s around this time of year that Sohyun goes to visit her husband in Japan, so I gladly take the responsibility.”

“I see.”

“I decided to invite you to take part in this ritual this year…” Jaejoong said quietly, looking away from Yunho. “Because…you know.”

“Thank you Jaejoong. It means a lot.”

When Jaejoong looked back at Yunho, a blush rose to his cheeks at the sight of the other man’s face. He smiled back, his heart fluttering in his chest from the way Yunho was looking at him so adoringly.

It was a look he wouldn’t have minded seeing every day.

From the way Yunho looked distressed by the children running crazily on the streets, Jaejoong assumed that Yunho had never gone trick or treating before. He could feel Yunho’s grip on his hand tighten as a group of yelling ghosts ran past, screaming for candy, their guardians running behind them in an obvious state of panic.

“Why…why are they like this?” Yunho asked, a note of obvious horror in his voice.

Jaejoong laughed and poked Yunho’s cheek. “Silly. It’s a combination of two things really, great quantities of sugary products and excitement - there’s bound to be screaming and hyper children.”

“But Eunyoung and Horan are perfectly normal!” Yunho protested, a little too loudly from the way a group of young mothers glared at him as they walked by. He ignored the looks and pointed at the twins, who were walking at a calm pace in front of them. “They’re not screaming, running, or crying for more candy!”

Jaejoong shook his head and just laughed, “You need to calm down.” He squeezed Yunho’s hand reassuringly, “It’s not the end of the world, okay? It’s just Halloween, and it’ll be over soon.”

“I hate this holiday.” Yunho muttered, “I like Christmas. Christmas is good, with peaceful family gatherings and presents, and -“

“You sound ridiculous.” Jaejoong commented as he pointed the twins in the direction of the next house on the map. He shook his head at Yunho’s pout, “Like I said before Yunho, it’s just Halloween. You’re not going to die unless you’re scared of children.”

“Maybe I am scared of children.” Yunho answered childishly as he and Jaejoong watched Horan and Eunyoung walk up the doorstep of the house. “I certainly don’t want to be dealing with screaming, shrieking voices for a whole evening.”

“You’re overreacting.” Jaejoong replied. He glanced at Yunho, “You have a sister, don’t you? You never took her trick or treating when you were younger? I’m sure you must have.”

Yunho was silent for a moment and shook his head. “I don’t remember taking her trick or treating.” he replied, his eyes focused on the twins who were returning, talking happily about the candy they’d gotten.

Jaejoong glanced at Yunho worriedly, his tone of voice a sudden change from his previous happy one. “Yunho, is there something -“

“Uncle Joongie! Look, look how much candy we got!” Horan yelled excitedly, “The lady said that Eunyoung and I looked so pretty! She gave us so much!”

Eunyoung held out her bag as evidence of what her sister was saying, “Look! Look!”

Jajeoong gave into the girls’ whims and made a sound of surprise, “She gave you guys so much! You have to share with Yunho and I later, or else I’ll get sad.” He smiled at the girls and straightened up. He glanced at Yunho, and Yunho was smiling once more.

Yunho glanced at Jaejoong, “What?” he laughed and took the map out of Jaejoong’s hands easily. He smiled at the girls, “I think Uncle Joongie’s crush on me is getting bigger every day. He can’t stop staring.”

“Yesterday he said your name when he was sleeping.” Horan whispered, although it hardly sounded like one since she was talking so loudly, she leaned closer to Yunho, “He said it several times.”

A blush crept across Jaejoong’s face, “What are you talking about? I didn’t -“

“Yes you did!” the twins protested loudly. Horan smiled deviously, “I heard you last night! I heard you!”

“I didn’t -“

“Is there something you have to tell me?” Yunho asked, a smirk on his face as he put his arm around Jaejoong, “Have you been having interesting dreams lately -“

“I have not been having any interesting dreams lately!”

Several people on the street stared at Jaejoong as they passed by, and his blushed deepened. He shook his head, and Eunyoung took hold of his hand.

“Let’s go Uncle Joongie! There’s more candy!”

Jaejoong nodded, his face still red, and allowed Eunyoung to take the lead. He felt Yunho’s arm drape over his shoulders, and he turned his head, only to see Yunho smirking at him.

“What?” Jaejoong muttered, elbowing the taller man. “They’re obviously lying -“

Yunho placed a quick kiss against Jaejoong’s cheek and pulled away, “You can tell me more about those dreams of yours later. Maybe I can help you out with them.”

“You’re just distracting me -“

“Uncle Joongie, look! A dog!” Eunyoung and Horan ran away from them, and Jaejoong paled as they crossed the street without looking both ways. He ran after them, his previous concern for Yunho forgotten as he crossed the street.

As soon as the girls dumped their candy all over the coffee table, Yunho and Jaejoong retreated to the sofa to watch them from a distance as the twins laughed and giggled over the kinds of sweet things they’d received.

Just as Jaejoong was about to kiss Yunho on the cheek, the girls took hold of as much candy as they could and ran to the two of them, placing themselves in between. Eunyoung sat down on Yunho’s lap, and Horan sat down on Jaejoong’s.

“Mommy said to call as soon as we’re done trick or treating.” Horan reminded, taking out the cherry pink lollipop from her mouth. “She said that if we don’t call, she’ll get very angry.”

Jaejoong chuckled, “Fine, let’s go call her, shall we?”

He took hold of Horan and helped her off his lap, and the two of them went to find the phone. After Jaejoong had dialed the number Sohyun had left behind, Eunyoung went over to her sister, and Jaejoong left the twins alone to talk to their parents.

When he went back to the sofa, Yunho was flipping through channels idly.

“Bored?” Jaejoong asked as he sat down next to Yunho and pressed himself close to the other man. Yunho’s arm went over his shoulders once more, and Jaejoong pressed a kiss to Yunho’s neck.

“This was fun.” Yunho said softly, as he shifted his gaze over to Jaejoong, “I haven’t done something like this in a long time.”

“You can come be the twins’ babysitter any time.” Jaejong replied contentedly as he looked up at Yunho, “They adore you - especially Eunyoung.”

“You think?”

“I know so.” Jaejoong reassured with a smile, “They’re comfortable around you, and they like to talk to you.”

Yunho was silent for a moment, and Jaejoong was reminded of his previous concern for the other man. Jaejoong poked Yunho’s chest, “Yunho…if there’s something you need to talk about, I’m here for you.”

Yunho shook his head, “No, it’s really nothing. I don’t want to worry you. You still have a long way to go, right?” he pressed a kiss against Jaejoong’s forehead, “I don’t want to burden you with -“

“Yunho.”

Jaejoong forced Yunho to look at him, “Please. If there’s something you need to talk about, you can tell me. You’ve been more than perfect…” he pressed a gentle kiss against Yunho’s lips, “I want to help you the same way you’ve helped me.”

“It’s nothing Jaejoong, trust me.” Yunho answered as he stood up, “Now come on, I think I heard the girls calling for us to help them with their things.”

Jaejoong frowned, and stood up reluctantly. Yunho waited for him in front of the stairs, and as soon as Jaejoong was close, Yunho pulled him into his arms and buried his face into the crook of Jaejoong’s neck.

“I love you.” Yunho murmured, “And I’m sorry about ruining this night with my mood. I promise you Jaejoong, it’s nothing.”

Yunho pulled away, and Jaejoong reached out to gently brush his cheek. He carded his fingers through Yunho’s hair in a comforting gesture, “I just want to be there for you, in the same way that you’ve been here for me.”

“I know.”

Jaejoong sighed, “If you need -“

“Uncle Joongie! Horan’s eating candy on her bed!” Eunyoung screamed, completely ruining the serious atmosphere between Yunho and Jaejoong. She appeared at the top of the steps, “Horan’s not listening to me! She keeps eating the candy!”

“We’ll be there in second, okay sweetheart?” Jaejoong smiled, and he watched as Yunho began to walk up the stairs and ran up to take Eunyoung’s into his arms. She giggled, and Jaejoong watched as they disappeared into the girls’ room.

His heart clenched in his chest as he walked up the stairs, slowly taking the steps one at a time. Yunho was more than worthy to be happy, and Jaejoong could only wish that he was doing enough in order to give Yunho all the joy he deserved in life.
