//Actually, it’s been few nights already since that… I’m just slow at writing my thoughts down.//
(...Haha... And please excuse me and my fangirl rant and analysis. I'm just too into Saiyuki. Can't really be helped. <3)

But here we go:

You definitely need to catch up! Saiyuki is heading to sooo interesting direction! It depresses me to death to think how much time it will take before we get to see a new volume of it (in english that is). D: READ IIIT!

Haha! Please do! :D

Ukoku seems to be pretty popular. Well, a lot of readers probably want him death as soon as possible, but I'm sure no one can deny his awesomness, a great, great villain indeed.
And I couldn't really figure him out either, but I think this volume cleared his character a little bit to me.

He doesn't really have a purpose, so he just goes from one "game" to the next.Yes! Precisely! And maybe it's just me, but I think Ukoku resambles a lot of Kubota and how he was intoduced to us in the first Wild Adapter volume. I definitely see a lot of similarities between them, particularly in Ukoku's burial ( ... )

I figured Ukoku's possible crying was do to his having achieved his goal & now being without one. With sanzo being the highest he could go, he had reached a dead end - that game was now over, he no longer had any goal, nothing left to strive for
(until he made a new game).

Yeah, I definitely agree with you about Kanzeon, and that's why I miss her more as an observer of the events, not as a rescuer who saves the ikkou from evey tricky situation. Just like she's in Gaiden, merely a bystander, who easily could save the day but doesn't. After that whole transfusion thingy, she was that in Saiyuki too, until Reload's first volume. :/ That's what I miss, her little comments every now and then ( ... )

Thanks for starting this discussion! I bought SR9 last week, and agree with you on many points...

I am tired of Hazel. Hazel died in the anime years ago, and Minekura (bless her) seems unable to put him away yet in the manga. But it's more interesting in the manga now that Ukoku is face-to-face against the ikkou, as I agree that he's the ultimate villain in the Saiyuki universe. I'm one of those who believes that Ukoku killed Koumyou, because as the real villain in Saiyuki he has to have committed the worst violation against the story's main character (Sanzo). That's what the main villain does in any good story. :)

I think Ukoku just "knows" what's happening out of his sight, because possibly he's a fallen god (like Homura) and has those powers. Ukoku seems to have god-like control of things at times (recall his final scene with Kami-sama, his disciple).

I liked this volume, I just wish Minekura would move beyond Hazel and get the ikkou on their journey again. ;)

I think the whole muchimotsu is undergoing changes, just as the boys themselves are... Sanzo is now abandoning his own version of muchimotsu, which was created by his mind, and embracing the truth in his heart, as per the sanbutshin's advice waaayyyyy back when. I get the feeling that he's known for a while that they others mean a lot more to him than he admits, and so far he's just been perfecting his denial, but now he's getting used to the idea, after having been away from them for so long... I think we can expect to see a a slightly different Sanzo in volumes to come ( ... )

Yes, admitting the other's importance out loud is a huge improvment on his account, and I'm really hoping to see even a slight difference within him after this. Goku has matured so much, so it's about time for sanzo too to snap into the reality. x)

Well, I'm not missing her physical interfierence in the story and I don't even want her to interfere. What I miss though is her little comments every now and then when she watched the ikkou go.
That could very well be the reason, but I really do hope that Minekura will eventually "bring Gaiden" into Saiyuki.
