I think The Sock Shop is still there.
I found the most fantastic stockings at TSS in the city once; they were patterened with one of Andy Warhol's colourful screenprints of Marilyn Monroe. I would have bought them, but I felt that $25 was a bit much to ask for a pair of stockings that would probably get ruined quite quickly.
