If there was always one dish I took to be the American national dish it would be the fruit pie. On the other hand, I consider the small beef mince pie to probably be the Australian national dish. Pork pies, on the other hand are incontestably English, and not just because of the rhyming slang involved, but are not the national English dish.
That does sound delicious. You could also probably make a savory herb type sorbet to go with something pretty easily (ala basil or oregano)
Incidentally, I made an artichoke, kale, (leftover) ham, egg, and cheese pie for dinner tonight. (one might say that it was a quiche, and be correct, but really, a quiche is just a savory pie with an egg base for the filling)

I suppose it would be odd with a savory pie, but really, that just means you should make a savory ice cream/sorbet to go with it.
