This was in the adjuncts' mailboxes this afternoon:

"Dear Liberal Arts Adjunct Faculty:
"I recently asked that you not block the door open to T-202 [our office] in the interest of compliance with building and fire codes as a matter of personal safety to you and our students. Thank you for complying with this request.

Passingly amused that the "we truly appreciate you" was an addenda for "being a good boy" and closing the door, not a response in and of itself.

Yeah. And we complained about the whole door thing to, which probably prompted this memo in the first place.

There is no other exit from the room. If there were a fire in the building, unless it was in the room with us, we would have to exit through the fire. The windows don't open - or at least they aren't supposed to, because someone in building maintenance took all the window cranks - and so, when the room is full of students and faculty, which happens sometimes, it gets really stuffy. But, you know, fire codes...

Too bad labor protection is so bad that all the adjuncts can't go on strike...
