Regency letter-writing--bread-and-butter boring business letters?

Context:

Fanfic, set in the British Regency, slash pairing, letters between a gentleman and the man he sends out to buy books.  The gentleman is well-off, and the man is from his household, so there isn't an issue with costs for paper, ink, or postage. Just to clarify, the "man from his household he sends out to buy books" is some type of servant, correct?

Sort of. It's his "man of business", so he's clearly on the "servant" side rather than "gentry", but he's touchy about being considered a servant, and doesn't precisely fit into the hierarchy of "the household servants". The gentleman certainly doesn't regard him as his equal in class, but allows him a certain amount of freedom of speech as long as there's nobody else there to consider it less than respectable.
