Glass Sculpture

A shard of glass
softly tinkling breaks
beside my feet:
I hardly hear.
Then lightly tumbling
more pieces fall,
brushed away
by a careless hand.
The tinkle swells,
growing louder,
crashing and cracking
all around me.
A worried glance
from shielded eyes
brings only fear:
sweet sparkling piles
of sharp and dreadful glass
grow higher and higher
from the breaking shape
of me, my life
and what I thought I was.
Dreams, hopes,
much that I took for granted:
a deadly shining rain.
I only stand
and stare.
